Princess Margaret Lotteries...one big prize after another!
The Princess Margaret Lotteries had another extremely successful year, raising a record $24.8 million (net) through
our Welcome Home Sweepstakes and our Home Lottery.
“The people who support The Princess Margaret by purchasing lottery tickets are helping to create the largest single
source of private funding for cancer research in Canada,” says Christine Lasky, Vice-President of Strategic Initiatives
for The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. “Knowing they can count on this funding year-over-year means that
our world-leading researchers can focus on conquering cancer and not on whether they have enough funding to
continue their work.”
Beating the odds
Unlike the odds for getting cancer (2
out of 5 Canadians will be diagnosed
with cancer at some point in their
lifetime), the odds for getting a
hole-in-one on any golf course
are roughly 1 in 13,000. But Glenn
Murray of Toronto achieved this
remarkable feat within the first 30
minutes of play at the second annual
Golf to Conquer Cancer. Even more
remarkable, he did it on the hole
that offered a hole-in-one prize
of a luxury car valued at just under
$100,000. What a day for someone
who almost didn’t make it to the
tournament!
Glenn was a guest of Paul Bhullar,
the captain of the foursome from
International Freight Systems. Paul
was a lucky guest himself at Golf
to Conquer Cancer one year earlier.
He was part of the foursome that
travelled to Augusta for The Masters
which was one of the live auction
prizes at the event.
The presenting sponsor for Golf to
Conquer Cancer is Harry Rosen, a
brand synonymous with high quality
and outstanding service—attributes
that have been built into the golf
tournament as well. Golfers enjoy
great prize opportunities donated
by brand partners such as Ermenegildo
Zegna, Giorgio Armani, Samuelsohn
and many more who support cancer
research.
