F
ifty-six years ago at the Ontario Cancer Institute
(now Princess Margaret Cancer Centre), two
researchers—a biophysicist and a physician focused
on leukemia and normal blood formation—joined
forces. The result: Drs. James Till and Ernest McCulloch
are recognized today as the Fathers of Stem Cell Science.
They are an early example of why Princess Margaret
Cancer Centre is one of the top 5 cancer research
centres in the world: multi-disciplinary collaboration.
For a disease as complex as cancer, the ability to bring
experts in different fields together to solve a problem
or prove a theory is essential. Equally essential is the
continuing support of ‘multi’ sources of philanthropy—
individuals, families, foundations and corporations.
The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation created
the Till & McCulloch Society to recognize supporters
who have cumulatively donated $1 million or more
to fuel cancer research at The Princess Margaret. We
are grateful to all of the individuals, families and
organizations listed below for their vision and their
passion to help conquer cancer in our lifetime.
To honour their tremendous support, members of
the Till & McCulloch Society have the opportunity to
attend exclusive events with cancer centre leadership,
and they are the first to receive important updates and
information.
