2017 Annual Report

More than sixty years ago, a provincial cancer hospital opened on Sherbourne Street in downtown Toronto. Now, The Princess Margaret is recognized as one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world. How did that transformation occur? It’s the result of exceptional leadership in research, education and clinical care, in partnership with a Foundation that has engaged a broad community of donors. This has been a year of outstanding accomplishments for The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. We raised a record-breaking $108 million and we successfully completed the BILLION DOLLAR CHALLENGE—the most ambitious campaign undertaken in Canadian healthcare history. We continue to execute with excellence in our core fundraising programs. The Home Lottery had another record year raising over $27.7 million. Paul Alofs President & CEO The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation Glenn Ives Chair, Board of Directors The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation A Message from the President & CEO and the Chairman of the Foundation Board And our Major and Estate Giving team raised a record $51 million in philanthropic funds. The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer recently celebrated its 10th year, in June 2017. An astonishing 5,042 participants raised more than $20 million gross, making it a record-breaking year. In addition, The Foundation was recognized as one of Canada’s 10 Most Admired Cultures for the Broader Public Sector for a third time (2016, 2013, 2010). More than 250,000 individual tax receipts were processed and over 600,000 lottery tickets were ordered. All of this was possible because our community supports transformational leadership. As we mark Canada’s 150th birthday, we can proudly say that The Princess Margaret is transforming cancer care and the patient experience for all Canadians. Thank you again for your continued support as we unite to Conquer Cancer In Our Lifetime. The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation | 3 TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP
