2017 Annual Report

The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation | 35 Jennifer Kerr was the Ride’s top fundraiser in 2016, raising an astounding $236,104. A year later, Kerr raised more than $60,000 for the 2017 Ride. This amazing fundraiser and mother of two is also a cancer survivor. Diagnosed with endometrial cancer two years ago, Kerr rang the Bravery Bell just a few months before she did the Ride for the first time. Today, she remains engaged in the Ride and is dedicated to the fight against cancer. The RMP (Radiation Medicine Program) Accelerators rolled along the Ride route in 2017 without a familiar face riding with them. Dr. Michael Sharpe, a friend, team member and Associate Head of Medical Physics at The Princess Margaret, passed away in 2016, at the age of 51. He died just a few months after being diagnosed with cancer. Friends on his Ride team know he had every intention of taking part in the 10th anniversary event, if he had been able. Supporters made thousands of dollars in donations in his name for the 2017 Ride and his bicycle was brought to the starting line by his friends and family, as a tribute to Dr. Sharpe. In 2017, Beth Wilson became the first woman to serve as the Honorary Chair of the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer. She’s taken part in the event since 2011 and stepped up to the Honorary Chair Role for the Ride’s 10th Anniversary. “It was a double honour to be the 10th Anniversary RTCC Honorary Chair and to be the first female chair,” Wilson says. “I could not be more proud of our riders, corporate sponsors, donors and volunteers for their incredible accomplishment this year!” Leading The Way: The Ride’s top Fundraiser Paying Tribute to Dr. Michael Sharpe A ‘Double Honour’ for Beth Wilson TRANSFORMATIONAL EVENTS
