2017 Annual Report

Carley Allison couldn’t believe it. Thousands of paper doves lined the walls of The Princess Margaret, and one with her name on it. It was a token of support left by an anonymous well-wisher. For Carley and her family, it was a reminder that there is always hope, even when the odds seem stacked against you. Diagnosed with a “1 in 3.5 billion” case of clear-cell sarcoma, Carley underwent surgery, chemotherapy, and high-intensity radiation therapy. As she walked to the clinic that day, one small act by a stranger gave her hope. It’s a moment the Allison family cherishes as they remember Carley, who sadly passed away in 2015. Munira Premji, is a mother of two, and a three-time cancer survivor. “I’ve successfully battled Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, Multiple Myeloma and Breast Cancer,” says Premji. “Today, I am thriving because of the competent and compassionate care I received at The Princess Margaret.” Munira is one of the 3,500 people who participated in our recent Journey to Conquer Cancer, in June 2017. More than $1.6 million was raised, making it a record- breaking year for The Foundation. Since its inception five years ago, Journey has raised over $6.7 million. “I participate in the walk to do my part in raising money for research which will prolong life,” says Premji. “I’m walking for those who lost their battle with myeloma, so we can keep the fight going.” Doves of Hope Soar for the Allison Family Journey to Conquer Cancer Raises a Record- Breaking $1.6 million TRANSFORMATIONAL EVENTS Last year, a Doves of Hope installation was displayed beyond the boundaries of the Cancer Centre.
