2017 Annual Report

28 | 2017 Report to Our Donors Mitch Goldhar’s Philanthropic Support for Prostate Cancer Research Mitch Goldhar is a long-time friend of Dr. Neil Fleshner, a urologic oncologist and the Love Chair in Prostate Cancer Prevention at The Princess Margaret. When Goldhar was introduced to Dr. Fleshner’s world-leading clinical trial that uses a drug called Metformin, which potentially slows the growth of prostate cancer, he was inspired to make a donation. “It’s consistent with everything that Neil has done in his career. It’s original and there’s a brilliance to the simplicity. There’s a humanity to Neil and his work, and it comes through in this particular study,” says Goldhar. Goldhar made a commitment of $1.75 million through Dr. Fleshner’s Hold’em for Life Prostate Cancer Research Fund in 2016. “Healthcare and how it looks after its community and its citizens is what makes a city world-class. It’s important to support The Princess Margaret so that Toronto maintains its world-class healthcare.”
