Finding the root of cancer
Killing cancer stem cells is equivalent to killing the root
of a weed. The Princess Margaret has an ongoing legacy
of groundbreaking success in stem cell research, dating
back to Drs. James Till and Ernest McCulloch’s discovery
of stem cells in 1961. Therapies that can successfully
target cancer stem cells may be the most effective way
to conquer cancer.

n June 25, 2015, The Princess Margaret
Cancer Foundation announced a $50 million
campaign to accelerate biomedical research
at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. This campaign
supports the Foundation’s overarching five-year
BILLION DOLLAR CHALLENGE and will enable The
Princess Margaret to lead the way in Personalized
Cancer Medicine.
Donations to this campaign will fund research the
following five pillars of scientific research.

Harnessing the body’s own immune system to fight
cancer is the focus of a promising new approach called
immunotherapy. The Princess Margaret is proud to lead
Canada’s most comprehensive immunotherapy program.
